Gynecomastia: Male Breast Enlargement and Surgical Solution
Gynecomastia: Male Breast Enlargement and Surgical Solution
The condition where breast tissue in men grows larger than normal, usually due to hormonal imbalances, genetic predisposition, certain medications, or excessive weight gain, is called "Gynecomastia". Rather than a physical health problem, this condition can turn into a serious self-confidence and psychological issue that causes men to avoid wearing tight clothes or swimming. This problem, which cannot be solved by diet and exercise, can be permanently treated with modern aesthetic surgery.
How is Gynecomastia Surgery Performed?
The technique of the operation is determined by the plastic surgeon according to the source of the enlargement in the chest (fat tissue or hard mammary gland tissue):
- Liposuction: If the enlargement is caused only by excess fat tissue (pseudo-gynecomastia), the fat is melted and removed using Vaser or Laser Liposuction techniques through millimetric incisions, flattening the chest.
- Surgical Excision: If the cause of the enlargement is the hardened mammary gland (glandular tissue), liposuction is not enough. In this case, this hard tissue is surgically removed through an invisible crescent-shaped incision made under the nipple. Often, both methods are combined to create the most ideal silhouette.
Recovery Process
In order to reduce edema after the operation and ensure that the skin adheres to the new chest wall, the use of a special medical corset is required for about 3-4 weeks. Patients can usually return to their desk jobs within a few days, while it is recommended to wait for about 1 month for heavy sports.
Results in any surgical or interventional procedure may vary from person to person. It is recommended to get a detailed opinion from your physician before the procedure.
