Information About Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Surgery
In female anatomy, breast tissue can lose its natural elasticity over time due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight fluctuations, gravity, and genetic factors. Mastopexy, known as breast lift surgery, is a surgical procedure aimed at removing excess loose skin and repositioning the breast tissue to a more anatomically ideal and elevated position.
Pre-Operative Assessment and Approach
In mastopexy, the patient's existing breast volume forms the basis of the surgical planning. Depending on the surgeon's assessment, the procedure may involve only reshaping the patient's own tissue, or if there is a significant volume loss, it can be combined with a silicone implant placement.
Surgical Incisions and Scar Management
Depending on the degree of sagging, incisions may be limited to the areola or may extend downwards (lollipop or inverted T). Over time, these scars fade and are designed to remain hidden under clothing.
Recovery Process
The operation is performed under general anesthesia. Wearing a medical supportive bra for 4-6 weeks after discharge is of critical importance for the tissues to adapt to their new position and to manage edema. Patients can usually return to desk jobs at the end of the first week.
